Chat Rooms

A chat room is a location on your Web site that allows users to participate in real-time interactions. When a user types a comment, the comment is posted to the screen so that all users on that section of the Web site or "room" can read the comment as it is being typed. The company IChat is a provider of the network-based communication software that allows for this interaction.

Many of the sites in cyberspace are public, just like streets and squares in a city; access to them is uncontrolled. Others are private, like mailboxes and houses, and you can enter only if you have the key or can demonstrate that you belong by using a password. More information on this topic can be found in William J. Mitchell’s 1997 book, Space, Place, and the Infobahn--City of Bits.
