Log File Parsers

Log File Parsers are tools that analyze Web server access activity and generate reports. These tools provide more in-depth information than access counters. They can provide the number of requests for each file in a server, as well as the “domain names” (the Internet address of the server) of requesters. Some Log File Parsers can provide regularly updated summaries and graphical representations of WWW server hits and other statistics. Some can even generate statistics for hourly server load, page demand, accesses by domain, and accesses by host (ISP). Other features can include determining what type of browsers are being used to access your Web pages.

**WARNING**Log File Parsers may not be effective for smaller arts organizations that do not have their own domain name (e.g., www.artsnet.org). A distinct domain name is needed for an accurate measure of domain name requests.
