The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission offers multiple funding opportunites to a wide variety of nonprofit organizations and public agencies throughout the Commonwealth. This section will provide you with detailed information about each program and each type of grant. Guidelines for Applicants


This section includes guidelines for all of the Commission's grant categories:

The programs and eligibility criteria are described in detail. Prospective applicants may determine how the Commission's multiple funding opportunities can best meet their needs and the needs of their constituents and can best serve the people of Pennsylvania. Clicking on Certified Local Government Grant Program and Keystone Historic Preservation Grant Program links will take you directly to the guidelines for those programs. Certified Local Government Grant Program

Application Submission Deadline: January 15, 2009

Funding under this program is limited to federally designated Certified Local Governments. There is only one type of grant.

  • Competitive
  • Matching
  • Maximum Award $15,000. The Review Committee may, at its discretion, approve an award greater than $15,000.
  • Funding is available for Staffing and Training or Pooling and Third Party Administration.
  • Funding for projects is available through all PHMC project grant categories. Please contact a grant manager to select the appropriate program.

Keystone Historic Preservation Grant Program

Application Submission Deadline : May 1, 2009

Funding under this program is available to nonprofit organizations and local governments for preserving or restoring historic resources listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. (Private property owners are not eliglible for funding under this program and may wish to refer directly to PHMC Programs of Interest for information on investment tax credits.) There is one type of grant.

  • Funding for Preservation, Restoration, and Rehabilitation.

Pennsylvania History and Museum Grant Program

The Pennsylvania History and Museum Grant Program was initiated with a special appropriation from the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1985 and has been supported since that time by an annual appropriation of funds to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. Funding under this program is designated to support a wide variety of museum, history, archives and historic preservation projects, as well as nonprofit organizations and local governments. There are 10 types of grants listed below.


Archives and Records Management Grants
