The Heathcote Art Foundation is a private foundation established in New York in 1964 by Josephine Mercy Heathcote Haskell. Originally an exhibiting foundation for its benefactress' personal collection of English 18th century art and furnishings, the Foundation's purpose since converting to a grant-giving foundation in 1986 has been to support arts organizations which directly assist emerging artists of promise, and those which promote the creation of new and innovative work. The Foundation currently makes grants from investment income to qualifying recipients across a broad spectrum of artistic disciplines through three distinct programs:
The value of the Heathcote Art Foundation's total assets at fiscal
year end October 31, 1999 was approximately $3 million. Grants totalling
approximately $3.2 million were awarded between fiscal years 1986 through
1999. The Foundation is a member of the Council on Foundations,
Grantmakers in the Arts, the New York Regional Association of
Grantmakers, and is a founding member of the trustee peer network AMFA.
