Introducing the exciting new Distinguished Artist & Scholar Lifetime Achievement Award to honor Master Artists and Scholars of the African Diaspora who have created a groundbreaking body of work that changed the course of art history. The 2004 Awardee is Cuesta Benberry, Quilt Historian of St. Louis, Missouri. The 2005 Awardee is David Driskell, Art Historian and Artist of Maryland. The 2006 Awardee is Elizabeth Catlett, Artist of New York City and Cuernavaca, Mexico. Interviews will be published on the Foundation's website. The 2007 Awardee is under consideration.

As the Foundation's web site is updated and expanded in the coming weeks and months, many new projects and essays will be published on the site. Here are some of the highlights:

Announcing:
2002 - Art With Kids Grant Recipient, Trish Maunder has been named the 2005 African-American Timeline of Art History Director. The culmination of her project, entitled From Harlem to the Classroom: Insights and Inspirations of Four Innovative African-American Artists for Elementary and Middle School Kids will result in completed essays for the Online Journal, and Art With Kids Teacher's kits and lesson plans on Master Artists Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Aaron Douglas, and Jacob Lawrence. Now online!

Connecting Memories: The Art of Romare Bearden (1911-1988) is an art-making workshop for middle school kids by Linda Camardo, the 2004-2005 Art With Kids Award Winner, with Pennsylvania school children participating.
